Phase 1 orthodontic treatment, also known as early interceptive treatment, is designed for children who still have a mix of baby and permanent teeth. The goal of this first phase is not to complete orthodontic care, but to guide proper jaw growth, create space for incoming permanent teeth, and address developing problems before they become more complex.

Treatment may involve expanders, partial braces, or other appliances to correct bite issues, improve alignment, and encourage healthy dental development. By addressing orthodontic concerns early, Phase 1 treatment can reduce the severity of future problems, minimize the need for tooth extractions, and create a more stable foundation for Phase 2 treatment once all the permanent teeth have erupted.
